Borissov: Bulgaria to Win Big from South Stream

Borissov: Bulgaria to Win Big from South Stream

06/07/2010 18:09

Bulgaria will profit well from being part in Russian South Stream gas pipeline project, said Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov after meeting Russian deputy-PM Viktor Zubkov in Sofia.

Thus Borissov effectively dispelled speculation he himself provoked June that Bulgaria might back out of large-scale projects with Russia, including South Stream.
The profit for Bulgaria from participating in the project will double or triple, claimed Borisov.
The Bulgarian PM said that details on the infrastructure of the projected pipeline's stretch in Bulgaria are yet to be clarified. In particular it is to be determined in what ways existing infrastructure is going to be used and whether new pipes must be built.
According to Borisov, Bulgaria will retain 100% ownership of existing pipe infrastructure and will obtain 50% ownership of new pipes that have to be built.
Boyko Borisov was confident that those details are going to be fleshed out during this week's visit of a Bulgarian delegation to Moscow, coming on Thursday.
The Bulgarian PM also reiterated Bulgaria's commitment to European gas pipeline project Nabucco, saying that it does not conflict with South Stream.
